Organic colors and rough textures are used to make the work blend in with the virtual cave. The figures are somewhat abstract to mimic some cave art, but also to minimize the distortion of the dome projection.
More experiments to find a balance between simplicity and accuracy. These four took several steps of simplification from my original drawings. Abstraction does not come naturally for me; it’s a process to achieve it. I’m learning more about anatomy of these animals, which helps the design make sense.
It will be interesting to see how the final animation looks. Because it will be playing through a game engine and projected onto a 270 degree rocky dome surface, there are a lot of technical challenges that lie ahead.
